39 WINTER 2021 ISSUE 02 / VOL . 02 SNOWGOER . COM 40
The park is interesting and scenic , with the trail winding its way up the bluff and through a grassland area and eventually to a place where snowmobilers can stop and look over Lake Pepin . This section of trail hadn ’ t been groomed in a long time , so it was slow going up and down as we all tried to find the smoothest line .
We traveled north and west from the park toward Red Wing – a town well-known for its rugged work boots – before riding to the Old Western Saloon in Hay Creek Valley for lunch . Despite the clear views around corners in the hardwood forest , the serpentine trail we rode was so tight and twisty that speeds rarely passed 25 mph – every one of us earned our burger and fries .
