Problem: Fence laying on field
Turfgrass area: School sports field
Location: South central United States
Turfgrass variety: Synthetic turf
This school decided to install fence paddings on one of its synthetic turf fields. For some reason, the fence had been bolted to the cement in place of pouring the cement around the installed poles. Then, when the pads were being installed, instead of attaching the pads directly to the fence, the contractor decided to add a double layer of 2x4s to the area between the fence and the pads. The additional weight of the pads and the 2x4s proved too much weight for the fence’s bolts that were secured into the fence foundation cement. The whole fence came down like a series of dominos. No one was injured when this occurred, and the fence had to be reinstalled before the pads could be added. Luckily, the whole thing was not up when the first player made contact with it or they would have had quite a surprise.
