In terms of industry news , the September 1992 issue shared news of successful tests of grass that would be used for the 1994 World Cup inside the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan . “ The initial Silverdome testing was conducted in conditions worse than will be present for the games in 1994 ,” said Dr . John Rogers , Michigan State University . “ We are very confident with the results .”
Interestingly enough , for the upcoming 2026 World Cup , Rogers and MSU are among those researching and designing
turfgrass systems that can be placed inside covered NFL
stadiums and remain playable for up to 60 days .
