NORTHERN NEW YORK
The northeastern cap on the Empire State is made up of St . Lawrence , Franklin and Clinton counties and includes the northern edge of the Adirondacks .
Much of this region lies north of Lake Ontario so it doesn ’ t receive much lake effect snow . But the white stuff that comes in naturally occurring storms tends to stick around , as this region traditionally has the lowest temperatures in the state .
This region also benefits from being not quite as touristy as some other regions . That results in a relatively low volume of traffic on the trails they have , meaning that there are some
excellent opportunities to pile on big miles on large loops in this region .
The Malone area of north-central Franklin County is an ideally position hub found in the center of some of this region ’ s best snowmobiling . Make a trip toward the north and the border with Quebec , or work your way west toward St . Lawrence County , with its 700 miles of trails and destinations like Tupper Lake and Cranberry
Lake . Clinton County to the east leads to the northern stretches of Lake Champlain .
A couple of can ’ t-miss views in this general region include the Benson Mines area and the overlook on Little Blue Mountain near Sevey ’ s Point , both in southern St . Lawrence County .
