south , with Washington , Saratoga and Warren counties in between , this region includes the fascinating Lake George area , Saratoga Springs , Saranac Lake , a trail that dead-ends in Lake Placid and other trails taking riders near the massive Lake Champlain .
Located on the eastern edges of the Adirondacks , this region depends more on traditional snow-making storms rather than lake effect snow to a much greater degree than any of the three aforementioned areas .
There are more than 300 miles of trails in the area right around Lake George , which is one of the better hubs in the area due to the variety of services available .
A “ can ’ t miss ” here is a trip up to the top of Prospect Mountain , which towers above the surrounding landscape at 2,018 feet . It is arguably the best scenic view from any trail in New York State and should not be missed by anyone riding this region .
