For Scullion, the movement goes beyond utility buyers simply wanting a more comfortable work machine.“ There’ s a shift happening as we speak,” he says.

The trend also helps explain why the line between utility and recreational UTVs is becoming less distinct. A customer who might once have considered a sportoriented machine can now choose a cab-equipped utility / recreational vehicle that offers weather protection, HVAC, comfort and technology without giving up off-road capability.

“ The utility segment is the biggest segment,” Scullion says. Can-Am is responding with a broad Defender offering, ranging from entry-level models to high-end configurations. The 2027 Defender lineup adds the new XU package, while the Defender HD10 receives an 80−horsepower Rotax three-cylinder engine, updated chassis and suspension and additional technology.

Can-Am is not abandoning performance, either. The company recently unveiled the Defender Prerunner and Maverick R XRay concepts, highlighting specialized applications ranging from race support to sand performance. Scullion says the company also plans to launch a major new off-road product every six months for the next four years, effectively doubling its product-launch cadence.
