Wolverine X2 1000 : ready for technical trails and the farm

Yamaha recently released the Wolverine X2 1000 , designed to reach a new market – anyone who is looking for an affordable machine that offers comfort , versatility , and some of those must-have features that make riding that much easier and more enjoyable .
Yamaha brought us to Taylorsville , North Carolina , not just to tell us , but to let us experience what the Wolverine X2 1000 offers . And they picked the perfect trail system to showcase how well the Wolverine navigates technical terrain as it stays up to speed on tight trails .
After speaking with ATV and SxS Testing Manager Pat Biolsi , it was evident that the Yamaha team did their research to determine which features absolutely had to be included on the new model . So who is the customer that will enjoy these features ?

CUSTOMER The model is aimed to satisfy a demographic that will want something less work focused than the Yamaha Viking , and less recreation focused than the Yamaha RMAX2 1000 . Basically , Yamaha has met the demand of customers looking for a model that offers a little more than the Wolverine X2 850 but is not as costly as the RMAX2 1000 .
Yamaha dealers will find that customers who prioritize price point , suspension specs , interior comfort , unit size , and a durable tire package will show interest in this model . Customers who are looking for a unit for recreational use will value the X2 1000 ’ s numerous capabilities and compact size . And for any powersports enthusiast , the value and performance of the 1,000cc engine surely will not go unnoticed either .
According to Yamaha , X2 1000 owners will prioritize durability , suspension , a selectable 4WD system , brand reputation , and driver comfort . Let ’ s break down how Yamaha has designed the X2 1000 to meet these needs :
ENGINE The recreational Wolverine X2 1000 side-byside offers a nice blend of features from the Wolverine RMAX2 1000 and the Wolverine X2 850 . The Wolverine X2 1000 engine is the exact same as an RMAX 1000 engine , which means there will be no problem for the X2 1000 riders who will want to tackle hill climbs aggressively . What was our take ? The power was there , as was confidence due to the compact size of the new unit .
D-MODE The D-mode switch is an accessory that we especially enjoyed on the X2 1000 , and an affordable one at that . As we rode up , down , and around in the thick of the forest , we kept our unit in Crawl Mode for the most part . ( The trails didn ’ t open up quite enough for us to flip the switch , conveniently located on the dash , to Sport Mode ). So , we were in and out of the Trail and Crawl Modes throughout the day , especially enjoying the smooth response and comfortable ride in Crawl Mode . The D-Mode switch offers three modes that include :
Trail Mode – Smooth acceleration , linear throttle response , and full engine braking for a relaxed ride .
Sport Mode – Powerful acceleration , quick throttle-response , and smooth enginebraking for a sportier experience .
Crawl Mode – Smooth acceleration , moderate throttle response , and full enginebraking to help navigate technical situations with ease .

time in the driver ’ s seat , switching between modes became something that didn ’ t even require a glance . It was easy to become familiar with the D-Mode switch , easily accessible on the dash . And with the selected mode visible on the digital display , we were consistently assured of what mode we were driving in .
