OPEI ANNUAL MEETING KEYNOTE HIGHLIGHTS
The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute ( OPEI ) held its annual meeting in June at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club in Ponte Vedra Beach , Fla . OPE + editor Glenn Hansen was among the attendees .
“ With 150 attendees and invited guests , insightful keynotes , and so much time to connect , I think it was one of the best annual meetings yet ,” said OPEI ’ s Kris Kiser . “ We ’ re pleased to report that the association and our trade show are on solid financial footing and remain in a good position to advocate for members and the industry as we head into 2025 .”
Keynote speakers at the event included Alan Beaulieu , president , ITR Economics ; Robert Costa , chief election & campaign correspondent for CBS News ; and Charles Duhigg , twotime New York Times bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist .
Economic outlook “ You ’ re going to leave here in a positive mood ,” said economist Alan Beaulieu , a frequent speaker at OPEI meetings . At last year ’ s meeting , he left attendees less-than positive with his prediction for a global recession in 2030 . Beaulieu said we are in declining inflation or “ disinflation ” right now and he said the Federal Reserve may lower interest rates by 25 basis points at the end of this year or in early 2025 . “ Ignore the political noise ,” he said , stating that the election of either Trump or Biden will make little difference in the overall economy .
