Editor ’ s Note : This story first appeared in the November 2014 issue of Snow Goer . We had a little fun telling the story of the tired sleds that were lent to us at the time , but rest assured that significantly better rental sleds are now available in this fascinating riding area .
I assume you ’ ve heard of the phrase “ making the best of a bad situation ?” It was the predecessor to the now-more-prominent “ when life gives you lemons , turn them into lemonade ” and was even the subject of a corny song by Ray Stevens in 1974 .
Well , let ’ s just say that , for a while , co-worker Mark Rosacker and I were living the opposite of that glib theory . We were taking one of the best situations imaginable , and making the worst of it ; we took that fresh lemonade and spilled it on Grandma ’ s priceless couch , if you will .
