ACCESSORIES million pounds of copper were extracted from the mine before it closed . Seeing the old machinery outside and the thick walls of the remaining stone buildings was intriguing .
The rest of the day was spent piling up miles on familiar and enjoyable trails . This far north , they were still in good shape , and the long days of late March made for delightful
riding . After returning to our tow vehicle near Phoenix , we bid adieu to Ray as snow started falling , then trailered in near white-out conditions up to Copper Harbor . That night was spent in a comfortable room at the Mariner North . We also enjoyed dinner there before crossing the road for some late-night carousing at Zik ’ s Bar in The Pines Resort , where we ran into a few more sledheads who were similarly wrapping up their riding season .
We wrapped up our season the next day with more local riding in about 3 inches of rapidly melting fresh snow and another trip to High Rock Bay . There was only one thing left to do : Get Steve to try one of Krupp ’ s Mini Mart ’ s world-famous pasties on the way home .
