This Winter , Be Unfaithful

BY JOHN T . PRUSAK / EDITOR
Depending on which history book you want to believe , the concept of marriage dates back at least to about 1300 B . C . and quite possibly back to 2350 B . C . While there have been variations on what marriage means ( or how faithfully people choose to follow its edict ), in general terms it usually means that the participants are pledging to “ mate for life ” and forsake all others .
We ’ re not alone as humans in willingly taking this monogamous approach . There are several critters in the animal kingdom that mate for life , including many bird species ( such as pigeons , bald eagles and macaws ) and , surprisingly , several canine-based creatures ( like coyotes and gray wolves ). As a guy with 30 years of marriage under my belt , I very much believe in it .
When it comes to your snowmobiling lifestyle , though , I ’ m here to encourage you to be a complete tramp !
Many folks have a certain sense of loyalty to their “ local ” trails or the trails they regularly ride , and that often goes double for snowmobile club members who help build and maintain a local set of trails . It ’ s nice to recognize every intersection and “ know every curve like the back of your hand ,” as country music ’ s Sam Hunt likes to sing .
But here ’ s the deal . Those trails don ’ t care if you wander . And , if word gets around that you were out catting around with other trails while out of town , you ’ re not going to have to hire an attorney and find a different place to live after giving up half of your belongings .
In fact , your local trails will gleefully welcome you back with open arms . So go ahead , spread yourself around , you unrestrained snowmobiling slut . Whore around like an NBA player or a rock star , guilt free !
That ’ s what the Great Escapes digital magazine is all about . It takes the best tour and destination feature stories out of past issues of Snow Goer magazine and pulls them together in an easy-to-read digital format to encourage fellow riders to broaden their snowmobiling horizons .
Whether you take that long-awaited trip to a famous destination or visit a new-to-you location in a neighboring state or province , there are interesting and exciting life experiences waiting for you over the next horizon .
