HAHN ’ S PEAK ROADHOUSE UPDATE

him back to the Hahn ’ s Peak
Roadhouse .
Try as we might , we
never made it to the steep
angles that would allow

snowboarding in these conditions
. When we finally all
agreed to throw in the towel ,
though , the boys expressed
relief , not disappointment .
We dropped back into Little
Red Park , and the fun returned
, as we were able to
maintain momentum in the
powder and carve around
again . Just as we rode the
short trail spur back to the
awaiting trucks , it stopped
snowing and we caught part
of a beautiful sunset .

EARLY WRAP UP We returned to the Hahn ’ s Peak Roadhouse tired and hungry . Luckily the Roadhouse has awesome food and drinks and a fun atmosphere . Soon the table before us was filled with plates carrying grilled salmon , a ribeye steak and a chicken-fried steak – all of which was outstanding . We devoured every morsel , then returned to the

the sky just had scattered
clouds . Maybe all of this
fluffy snow would settle
overnight and the riding
would be easier tomorrow ,
I thought .
I woke just before
daybreak to the sounds
of heavy equipment .
Through a haze , I saw

When we finally got to Steamboat , Asta was missing , and the other two were dubious on the day ’ s plan . “ Where we were going to take you , it ’ s probably about armpitsdeep in completely bottomless powder right now , and this stuff is supposed to continue all day ,” Rainsberger said . “ I ’ m not even sure we could get there ,” Miller added . We waited |
ing instead of two , the snowboards never made it off the racks and , at one point during our riding day I was praying to God to strike me down after I couldn ’ t catch my breath … but it was still one of the best and most memorable trips ever . I will definitely be back for another run in the region around Hahn ’ s Peak , but next time , how about just two feet of fresh powder ? |
