A new generation takes the wheel

Every healthy industry eventually experiences a quiet but powerful moment: the changing of the guard. You don’ t always notice it right away. It doesn’ t come with a headline or a ceremony. It shows up in meeting rooms, on factory floors, in service bays and sales offices. You can see it when a younger voice speaks up with a better idea. When someone steps forward to solve a problem no one else has cracked. When a senior executive realizes the next generation isn’ t just learning the ropes – they’ re ready to grab them.
That’ s exactly what this issue celebrates. And while this is the official recognition in print, we were able to celebrate in person with many of the recipients when they were recognized as part of the Boating Industry Top 100 black tie gala in Orlando this past January.
Now entering its second decade, the Boating Industry 40 Under 40 program not only recognizes talented people in the recreational boating industry, but it also provides a glimpse into the future of where this industry is headed.
Each year we receive nominations from across the industry. Dealer principals, company owners, CEOs and senior leaders take the time to shine a spotlight on young professionals who are doing exceptional work.
Once nominations close, we take a deep dive into careers of people already remarkably accomplished – and select 40 individuals who are not only outstanding in their achievements thus far – but who have the potential to push the industry forward.
The honorees come from every corner of the marine business, marketing, engineering, finance, sales, service, operations, marina management and many others.
They represent OEMs, dealerships, marinas, associations, suppliers and distributors. Different jobs. Different paths. Different skill sets. But they share something important: a deep commitment to this industry and the passionate people who power it.
Reading through their stories, a few themes appear again and again. Initiative. Curiosity. A willingness to step up when challenges arise. They’ re building teams, improving customer experiences, strengthening operations and helping their companies adapt to a rapidly evolving marketplace. In short, they’ re not waiting for leadership opportunities. They’ re creating them.
The marine industry has always been fueled by passionate people – builders, entrepreneurs, innovators and marketers – who believe boating brings something special to people’ s lives.
However, passion alone isn’ t enough to sustain an industry into the future. It also requires new energy, fresh thinking and leaders willing to carry the mission forward. Leaders like these! The next generation of marine leadership isn’ t somewhere down the road. They’ re already here. And from where I sit, that’ s something worth celebrating. Congratulations.
