JOHN MASCARO ’ S PHOTO QUIZ
ANSWER
From page 17
The two brown lines across this fi eld and this one strange design were a bit of a mystery as to the cause , so it took some investigating from the sports fi eld manager to fi nd the origin . Since grass never dies in a straight line , he knew it must be maintenance related ; and since it was sideline to sideline , it was probably caused by a piece of equipment . The strange-shaped line in the front of the photo was also puzzling . This fi eld had been recently mowed with a high-speed rotary mower , linear decompacted with a large decompaction machine , and rolled with a vibratory double drum , so it took some thinking and inspecting all the equipment to fi nd the culprit . They found that a gearbox on the linear decompaction machine had been leaking , spilling some oil and causing this damage . The equipment was repaired and there were no further issues .
