JOHN MASCARO ’ S PHOTO QUIZ
ANSWER
From page 17
This photo is from the 2023 SFMA Seminar on Wheels when we visited the America First Field , home of Real Salt Lake , in Sandy , Utah . While there , the stadium was undergoing some renovations that included upgrading the sound system and changing all the lights to LEDs . The contractor used a telescopic boom lift on the fi eld for two weeks as shown in the photo . The stadium had just replaced the fi eld in November with new sod , and the lighting and sound system renovation occurred in mid-January . Because the sports fi eld manager was not involved in the renovation planning , plywood was used to minimize damage to the fi eld instead of proper fl ooring / surface cover . Six areas were damaged enough to need new sod , and these areas were also diffi cult to repair because there is a bit of a grade change outside of the playing surface . When the ground thawed , they had to regrade and replace the sod in these damaged areas . They then used a roller to level out the areas and used grow lights and growth tarps to speed recovery . In addition to the proper surface cover request , future stadium renovations will also include requesting a sports fi eld crew member be with the contractor the entire time they are working on the fi eld to instruct the workers on where to drive .
