SFMA IN ACTION
Club, along with upcoming Rutgers Turfgrass Research Field Days in July. The chapter’ s calendar reflects a strong connection between local chapter engagement, university research and ongoing professional development.
KENTUCKY SFMA AND TVSFMA: REGIONAL LEARNING AT UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS In April, KYSFMA organized a New Haven Community Field Clean Up Day at New Haven Community Park. The project focused on practical improvements that directly affect field safety, playability and appearance. Work included Safecoat installation, infield grading, installation of new base anchors, a new pitching rubber and a new home plate, painting foul lines and foul poles, stringing off the field, seeding and fertilizing the outfield, edging the field and helping set up the field’ s maintenance game plan for the year. KYSFMA organized volunteers to give back to the community and network with turf managers from across the state.
The chapter also hosted a Florence Y’ alls Baseball Game Social Event on May 14 in Florence, Kentucky. The event was promoted as a networking night at the ballpark, giving members a more informal way to connect outside of a traditional education setting.
Kentucky SFMA and Tennessee Valley SFMA are partnering for a June 24 Field Day at the University of the Cumberlands. The event will focus on natural turf and synthetic turf education, CEUs and networking with turf professionals.
The event will feature a full day of education, networking and tours where attendees can meet members from across the region, share stories and grow their professional network.
Center on the University of Minnesota Saint Paul Campus. MPSFMA’ s mission focuses on sharing scientific, educational and applied knowledge for high-quality and safe playing conditions.
WHY CHAPTER FIELD DAYS MATTER Chapter field days are one of the most effective ways SFMA members learn from one another. They combine education, demonstration and relationship-building in a format that reflects the realities of the profession. Attendees can ask questions in real time, compare strategies, see equipment in action and learn how other crews solve common challenges.
This season’ s events show how chapters continue to strengthen the SFMA community by creating accessible opportunities for professional growth close to home.
As summer begins, SFMA chapters are once again proving that some of the best learning happens in the field.
ADDITIONAL SUMMER CHAPTER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Several additional chapters have summer learning opportunities on the calendar:
