JOHN MASCARO’ S PHOTO QUIZ
ANSWER
From page 17
This area, at the 50-yard sideline, on a youth and high school stadium field shows healthy green grass in the center and brown worn turf surrounding it. The brown turf was caused by wear. The green area is protected by the 50-yard pylon, and the turf stays green under the marker. The area around it is where the coach’ s box on a football field is located. Six feet back from the sideline, a line is painted for the players to stay behind and that is also where the yard markers are placed. The players usually congregate around the pylon, concentrating on the 50-yard line and causing the wear. The sports field manager fertilizes the entire field as part of their regular field maintenance. His crew also aerates the field after the season, and the coaching areas are aerated heavier because of all of the players standing stationary in the box area.
