Being a municipality, I work with a smaller budget than other organizations. I try keep majority of the work in house for cost savings and experience, giving crew members different experiences.
New crew members are trained in proper field maintenance and given a checklist of duties to be completed for game prep so there is no confusion. For a high-level field, I believe attention to detail is very important for aesthetics, playability and performance.
Because of time restraints during the season, I try to limit it to just prepping the field for games. That is why the level of proper maintenance is so important.
As soon as the weather breaks and ground thaws in the spring, two crew members are sent to the field to start the spring prep, which includes edging all edges and making sure there is a smooth level transition from turf to skin. We
