“ Rejuvenating the skilled trades has been a priority for us at NEST and the founding members of the Skilled Trades Advisory Council , and we are making incredible progress ,” said Rob Almond , CEO of NEST . “ The Phillies share our passion for the trades and will play a key role in helping shed light on these amazing career opportunities for the next generation .”
According to Almond , NEST ’ s partnership with the Phillies emerged from a shared commitment to community development and education of the skilled trades .
“ The program is an extension of the mission we have at the Skilled Trades Advisory Council — to elevate the skilled trades as high-paying , honorable and often heroic career paths ,” he said . “ The biggest challenge is the misconception that trades are a fallback option rather than a first-choice career . Overcoming this stigma involves education and firsthand experiences , illustrating the technical skills , innovation , and opportunities within the trades . Highlighting successful career stories and the significant demand for skilled professionals can also change perceptions .”
Almond added that NEST is keen to partner with other sports organizations to present the Skilled Trades All-Star Program in other markets .
“ Sports organizations interested in creating similar opportunities can reach out to us to explore
partnerships ,” he said . “ Our aim is to use these platforms to showcase the skilled trades as vital and exciting career options to a broader audience .”
According to Almond , the goal is to show participants that it ’ s not just a job , but a rewarding career path .
“ Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive , with many expressing a deeper interest and excitement about the potential in these fields ,” he added .
Almond said that for the sports field management industry to attract young people or even make them aware that sports field management is a career option , it is vital to build awareness and enhance visibility of careers in the industry through educational programs , interactive workshops and partnerships with organizations .
“ Showcasing the critical role these professions play in everyday life , especially in exciting environments like sports stadiums , can attract more young people ,” he said .
Almond added that educators play a crucial role by providing information and resources about career prospects , earning potential and the societal impact of these roles . Organizing field trips , inviting guest speakers from the industry , and facilitating workshops can help bring these careers to life for students .
