then , I had gotten older and motocross became less important . I have always loved turf — whether it was on the golf course or the athletic field — and the opportunity to join the landscape and sports field division at USC Upstate presented itself . The university was growing , and this was a great opportunity to fulfill my career . Now , 22 years later , it feels like a Kenny Chesney song , “ Don ’ t Blink .” Time flies when you are having fun , and there is always a new challenge and opportunity to make the day exciting . Over the years it has been fulfilling to meet colleagues who have chosen this career path and be associated with professional organizations such as the SFMA and SCSFMA to guide our team at USC Upstate to success .
SFM : Who were your mentors in the industry and / or what is the best piece of advice you have received ? Suddeth : There are many wonderful people in the sports field management industry that have mentored and helped me throughout the years . So many it would be impossible to list . For those who know and work with me in any capacity , you have mentored me ; it may have been work related , it may have been personal , you all have been my mentor and I am very thankful . I am most thankful for my mom and dad for the parenting and guidance ; for example , how to work hard and play by the rules to obtain success . My grandfather once told me to learn something new each day that passed . No matter how big or small the information provided , you would obtain it for the rest of your life .
