Dwight Country Club where I got to know a great friend to this day — Dennis Buck , course superintendent . From there , I went onto a private 9-hole course for 13 years , was an outside supervisor at a casino , and then on to Providence Catholic High School . That is where I started to enjoy sports turf care .
SFM : Who were your mentors in the industry and / or what is the best piece of advice you have received ? Heren : Like I stated , Dennis Buck , longtime golf course superintendent at Dwight Country Club . I worked for him off and on for about three years . He helped me in so many areas of golf course care and operation , including the technical and the common-sense approaches to managing a course . He did this with a sense of humor , which just eases everything when learning . The best piece of advice I have received came from him — “ Show up and show up on time .” Simple , but true .
