CANADIAN LIQUOR LAWS BY PROVINCE OR TERRITORY

While the Government of Canada develops and maintains overarching laws , policies and regulations for alcohol beverages throughout the country , each province or territory has its own set of regulations when it comes to selling and distributing alcohol . Some even have different legal drinking ages .

While the liquor industry in most areas is governed by a government organization , Alberta is the only province that has a privatized retail liquor system . Manitoba ’ s liquor industry is a mix of both public and private retail , but doesn ’ t have nearly as many thriving storefronts as Alberta .
Overall , all alcohol beverages sold in Canada are subject to the provisions of the Food and Drugs Act ( FDA ) and the Food and Drug Regulations ( FDR ), as well as the Importation of Intoxicating Liquors Act which governs the importation of intoxicating liquors .
The Beverage Information Group has put together an interactive map featuring the different liquor laws in each province or territory . Simply click on each area to find information such as the legal drinking age , the governing institution , laboratory testing requirements and more . For our online map , all you need to do is hover over each province or territory and the information will be displayed .
Editor ’ s Note : Information for this map was gathered from each province or territory ’ s government website to determine exact laws and regulations .
