But that’ s precisely why it matters. The most meaningful technological advancements aren’ t always the ones that make a snowmobile faster. Sometimes they make it smarter, more efficient, or better suited to the way people actually use it.
The MXZ X-RS is also significant because of where Ski-Doo is putting it. This isn’ t a limited-production race engine that exists only in one exotic model. The new powerplant is being offered across a surprisingly broad portion of the 2027 lineup, including trail, crossover, and utility applications. That gives riders with very different priorities access to the same fundamental engine technology.
That brings us to accessibility. At $ 15,599, the MXZ X-RS isn’ t an entry-level snowmobile, nor would we suggest that a $ 15,000-plus sled is accessible to every rider. But the 600RR itself isn’ t restricted to the most expensive or specialized machines. The technology is being spread throughout the lineup, and the MXZ platform remains one of Ski-Doo’ s core trail families.
The X-RS is also an appropriate place for this engine to make its debut. The MXZ X-RS combines the 600RR with Ski-Doo’ s REV Gen5 platform, RAS RX front suspension, and rMotion X rear suspension. The result is a package built around the kind of aggressive trail riding that allows the engine’ s quick response and
strong midrange to shine. The 137-inch version weighs 488 lb according to Ski-Doo’ s specifications, giving the 600RR a relatively light platform in which to deliver its performance.
The MXZ X-RS 600RR stands apart because it represents a meaningful step forward without abandoning what has made the 600-class so appealing in the first place. It delivers more power and quicker response while using less oil, adding an efficiency mode, and introducing automatic engine stop-start technology— all in a compact 2-stroke package that can serve a wide range of riders and applications.
Just as important, the MXZ X-RS 600RR demonstrates the level of refinement we have come to expect from Ski-Doo. The fit and finish, attention to detail, and integration of technology throughout the sled are consistently impressive. Nothing feels like an afterthought. From the engine to the chassis to the rider interface, the MXZ X-RS 600RR is a cohesive, polished package.
That’ s ultimately what won us over. The Snowmobile of the Year isn’ t necessarily the sled we’ d recommend to every rider, nor is it simply the fastest or most expensive machine. It’ s the snowmobile that makes us stop and think about where the sport is headed, and who is taking us there. That’ s why the Ski-Doo MXZ X-RS 600RR is our 2027 Snowmobile of the Year.
