The 20th Anniversary Edition adds some visual distinction without going overboard. The graphics and metallic paint look particularly good in the sunlight, and the subtle anniversary badging gives the sled some additional character.
The 10.25-inch display is impressive in appearance and resolution, although first-time users may need some time to learn its menus and functions. Once familiar, it provides a premium experience consistent with the rest of the machine.
Ultimately, the MXZ X-RS Competition 850 Turbo R is the sled for the rider who wants speed and pure snowmobile refinement. It’ s incredibly fast, but its smooth power makes that speed approachable. It can handle a long day of trail riding, but its natural habitat is an open straightaway with a rider who wants to know just how far the throttle will go.

The 9R is the torque monster of this bunch. It brings the advantages of displacement to a naturally aspirated package, delivering strong low to mid range power and immediate response without requiring turbocharging. On the trail, that translates to a machine that is extremely fun from 0-50 mph yet still pulls hard at higher speeds. Get on the throttle coming out of a corner and the engine responds immediately, with enough punch to make the sled feel alive underneath you. Stay on the throttle through the mid range and you’ ll continue to add speed. All while remaining manageable for riders of any skill level.
The Matryx chassis adds another layer to that personality. Polaris has built this sled for riders who want to push hard, and the machine rewards that behavior. Cornering is excellent, the front suspension does a great job of soaking up chatter, and the sled transfers weight effectively under acceleration.
