From the orange Sno-Ro and gold Moto-Kometic ( above left ) to the fleet of John Deere ( right ), there was much to see . last bolt and then built back up , using many 1976 Sno Pro parts Sgroi sourced from Ron Thomsen ’ s Gooseland Snowmobile Parts , found at swap meets and sought through various means .
Finding a decent track and making the reproduction body parts fit proved to be difficult , Sgroi said . He said he custom-made a frame for the seat himself and then had an upholstery specialist he knows build the seat using that template .
Unlike some collectors who build showpieces that are never
started , Sgroi wants all of his restored sleds to run and run well , which adds another level of complexity .
“ The first engine I put in it didn ’ t work out right , so then I built-out another one using two engines and making them into one , which gave me a real rough time ,” Sgroi explained .
The resulting finished project finally came together late this past summer , and it made its public debut at the Big East Classic in October .
“ It ’ s nice to take something that ’ s pretty beat when you get it and make it runnable again , and then showable ,” Sgroi said . “ When you show them , people come and talk to you about it . Some asked me if I raced it , did I build it , what size engine does it have , and this and that . Others just said that it was a very nice sled they haven ’ t seen around that much . It makes you feel good because you ’ ve accomplished something .”
