Quad County Snowmobile Club

Relatively young compared to many other clubs , the Quad County Snowmobile Club in Springfield , Maine , has spent that last 24 years pulling things together – physically , geographically and socially .
Located in the southeastern corner of Penobscot County , the club oversees a 120-mile trail network that crosses seven town or townships found in four counties – Aroostook , Hancock , Washington and , of course , Penobscot .
From overseeing sections of the big ITS Connector Trails 105 and 110 to more local paths , their network twists through a wonderfully rural part of the Maine backcountry , connecting riders from more populated areas to nature and to other neighboring trails maintained by other friendly clubs .
The Quad County members also stay very connected to each other and to their communities with fun events , hosted meals , club rides and more .

What is the best in-season club activity that makes membership fun ?
“ We do a hot dog roast at the locks [ the dam at the outlet of Lower Sysladobsis Lake ] where we meet up with the Grand Lake Stream Snowmobile Club at a location 20 miles from the clubhouse . You can only get there by sled in the wintertime . We have as many as 100 sleds ride in for the hot dogs and campfire pies .”
What is your club ’ s best off-season event or activity ?
“ We do several off-season meals , probably the best is the Thanksgiving dinner we do for the Community Thanksgiving Day . We cook as many as 12 turkeys and all the fixings to go with it . This is done free or by donation and it ’ s eat-in or take-out . This is something we have been doing for 12 years and we have served as many as 125 to 150 people . One of our business members , Sleeping Bear Campground and Cabins , supplies all the turkeys to the club . This is huge for the people that are by themselves for the holiday or not wanting to cook . It ’ s also a very much-needed social event for them .”
What ’ s your club ’ s best means for finding new members in recent years ?
“ All the meals we serve throughout the years bring in as many non-snowmobile members as snowmobile members , which shows what an active club we are and also how we help the community as well as helping snowmobiling .”
How do you make new members or prospective new members feel welcomed in your club ?
“ Everything we do at the club , we always welcome the public as well as our snowmobile club members .”
Beyond safety training , does your club do anything to attract youth or keep them involved ?
“ This is a tough one . There aren ’ t many youth in our area . But we did donate one of the sled drags to the local school for them to be able to groom their cross-country ski trails .”
One interesting thing that our club does for the good of the sport and the local community is ...
“ Our trails tie Downeast Maine to The County [ Aroostook ]. We have people tell us all the time that we have the best-kept secret because our trails are usually so good .”
Overall , the thing that makes our club great is …
“ Our members ! They are always there to help with whatever comes up , whether it ’ s preparing and serving meals or going out and helping make our trails as good as possible .”
