A slim cockpit means there’ s plenty of space to move around the sled.
supportive both when standing and when seated.
The Patriot Boost VR1 comes standard with Polaris’ 7S Ride Command touchscreen display, which features built-in GPS, group ride tracking, a turbo boost gauge, and smart heated grips and thumb warmers that can be manually adjusted for temperature( High, Medium, and Low), which we found to be an invaluable feature that increases rider comfort immensely. The 7S screen is easy to read in different lighting conditions, which makes a big difference when you’ re focused on the trail. Additionally, the handlebar controls made navigating simple and provided all the key information needed without overcomplicating things.
The power delivery from the Patriot Boost engine delivers very smooth and linear power for a turbo machine. Even in the tight and twisty trails the power is very manageable and doesn’ t put too much down coming out of a corner. Overall, we found the VR1 to be a thrilling trail machine, with plenty of power on tap and suspension that sets it apart from the rest of the trail sled lineup. This is a machine that you ride more than drive— you’ ll find yourself standing a lot, moving around the chassis, and doing a bit more work than on some of the other sleds we tested. And for some riders, that’ s just what the doctor ordered.
For having such a powerful motor, the machine is easy to ride, with limited turbo lag and linear power. You can ride this thing all day long through any variation of tight and twisties, to railroad grade and long, sweeping turns. If you’ re looking for a machine that can do a little of everything, and do it well, this Polaris Boost VR1 is a great option.
CHOOSING YOUR BIG MILE MACHINE
Riding big miles on a snowmobile doesn’ t always mean you need a sled outfitted with touring accessories or the one with the most comfortable seat. For some riders, those miles are best spent riding at speed, through rough, bumpy moguls, and testing their limit to go fast when the trail stretches out endlessly in front of them. For others, comfort is king, and while they appreciate a sled that has plenty of power on tap, being protected from the elements, latest gauge technology, and a riding position that doesn’ t make them feel cramped are crucial. In our test of these three machines, we found that all of them do all of these things to varying degrees. And while the Arctic Cat ZR 9000 Thundercat may be the favorite for high-speed, long-distance rides, the Polaris Patriot Boost INDY VR1 137 Dynamix proved to be a great companion when the trails turned twisty and tight. Similarly, the Ski-Doo Renegade X-RS Smart-Shox 900 ACE Turbo R 137 offered a new level of excitement with Launch Mode and some premium features, all of which was baked into a machine with the nicest fit and finish. Ultimately, though, you can ride big miles on just about anything. Which sled you choose will likely be based on the kind of terrain you’ ll encounter, the pace of your group, and your skill level. In all, these three machines check all the right boxes, with snowshaking power, comfortable ergonomics, the latest tech features, and just the right mix of go fast and go far.
