Some say it’ s like riding a couch... A couch with a lot of horsepower!
Arctic Cat ZR 9000 Thundercat, a 4-stroke turbocharged powerhouse outfitted with high performance parts and cutting-edge electronic rider aids like the Arctic Cat Adjustable On-The- Fly Suspension( ATAC). For 2026, the Thundercat is powered by Yamaha’ s powerful 998cc turbocharged engine and features an upgraded ATAC electronic suspension system and G8 touchscreen display.
The Thundercat’ s 4-stroke turbo delivers refined, strong power with a sound that’ s satisfying without being too much for long trail days. The ATAC suspension paired with the power steering completely erased any thought that this sled was just a lake racer. While it could easily outpace most sleds on the flats, it’ s far more versatile than we expected. While we wouldn’ t classify the Thundercat as a super aggressive rough-terrain sled, it has the capability to handle tougher terrain when needed thanks to the adjustable ATAC‐3 rear suspension with push-button calibration changes.
Built for riders who crave intense acceleration, premium components, and top‐tier handling, the Thundercat’ s C‐TEC4 4‐stroke Triple engine delivers blistering acceleration on open trails and long sweeping curves. Paired with Arctic Cat’ s advanced chassis and suspension systems, the engine provides linear power delivery with strong mid‐range torque and top‐end thrust.
Like a lot of modern big power sleds, the power delivery is linear, which allows them to be very comfortable for a long day’ s ride. In the past, big sleds required a lot of work to ride, but nowadays the power is so smooth that you can ride them all day without any engine fatigue. And this was especially notable on the Thundercat.
Additionally, the shapely bodywork along with handguards and a midheight windshield provided ample wind protection. As a result, the Thundercat was a favorite for keeping the elements from creeping up your sleeves or into your helmet and making a cold day feel even colder.
Fox iQS shocks at both the front and rear absorb bumps while maintaining nimble trail manners, giving riders
a smooth yet responsive ride. In our testing we found the Thundercat to be extremely comfortable on longer rides. The cornering was confident and predictable, with no noticeable ski lift, and you can power through turns easily. Switching the suspension to firm keeps the sled planted and controlled over moguls and rough sections, giving a very capable feel.
Other standard-issue rider-friendly features include push-button electric start, hand and thumb warmers, LED lighting, and a mid-height windshield for wind protection. These features enhance everyday usability, making the Thundercat not just a high-performance machine but also a practical and comfortable sled for extended trail rides.
Additionally, the G8 display is clear and easy to read in any light, rounding out a very polished trail package. If you are planning to log a lot of miles in a day, this sled would be at the top of our list. And while it may look a bit dated compared to the newest chassis, the Arctic Cat ZR 9000 Thundercat is a sled more people should consider when shopping for a fully functional, dependable, and extremely powerful trail machine.
