Last year , our intrepid senior editor , Kevin Duke , traveled to Portugal to test the new GSX-S1000GX +, described by Suzuki as the “ supreme sport crossover ” because it combines the engine , chassis , and styling of the GSX-S1000GT + sport-tourer – our 2022 Motorcycle of the Year – with the taller suspension and upright seating position of an adventure bike .
With 17-inch wheels wrapped in Dunlop Roadsport 2 tires , the GX + has no pretensions for off-road exploration . But its added wheel travel – an extra 1.2 inches in front and 0.8 inch out back compared to the GT + – allows it to better smooth out road imperfections for a plusher ride . The GX + goes a step further , being the first motorcycle out of Hamamatsu to be offered with a semi-active electronic suspension system .
Duke has tested hundreds of motorcycles over the years , and he was quite taken by the GSX-S1000GX +, going as far as to say it ’ s his favorite bike in Suzuki ’ s current lineup ( read his review in the March 2024 issue or on RiderMagazine . com ). When we finally got our hands on a GX + test bike , I grabbed the keys and immediately headed into the mountains for a shakedown ride before embarking on a 1,000-mile tour .
