SATISFIED : RATE YOUR SATISFACTION WITH BEING AN OPE DEALER AT THE CURRENT TIME ( 1-NOT AT ALL SATISFIED AND 10-EXTREMELY SATISFIED )
34.6 %
Our quarterly dealer survey helps us analyze and report on current business conditions in outdoor power equipment , and to see trends or changes . Thank you to all who contribute to this information gathering . Last year at this time , many OPE dealers told us that drought conditions were having a major impact on their business , hurting sales and service activity . We report on that and more following our 2024 Q2 dealer survey .
Who responded to this survey ? It ’ s a blend of OPE dealers nationwide .

Satisfied ?
We ask : Rate your satisfaction with being an OPE dealer at the current time , on a scale of 1 to 10 , with 1 being “ not at all satisfied ” and 10 being “ extremely satisfied .”
In Q2 survey reporting for 2024 , OPE dealers seem more satisfied with the business , compared to 2023 satisfaction levels . More than 45 % scored their satisfaction at 8 or higher . In the same quarter last year , less than 30 % said the same .
Why the higher level of “ satisfaction ” compared to this same period last year ? Rain , no doubt ( or drought ) has a major influence on sales and service work . I ’ m mowing my own lawn every five days this summer . Most dealers seem content with inventory levels , as we ’ ll see later in this survey . It ’ s not all good , of course , as buyers of high-ticket items have been dealing with higher financing costs . But the raised satisfaction level is a good sign .
Conditions by Department ?
We ask : How would you rate your dealership ’ s performance in the following areas – New Unit Sales ; Used Unit Sales ; P & A Sales ; Service Dept .; F & I – based on the last 3 months ? Choose from : Very Bad , Subpar , Average , Good , Very Strong
The service department is the strong point for most dealers we surveyed – 20 % rated this as Very Strong , and nearly 75 % rated service as Average or Good . This department was strong in Q2 ratings as well , but not this strong .
