The OPE Business Movers & Shakers Award recognizes power-equipment professionals who lead with vision and influence . In the past year , these leaders have embraced the challenges facing the industry , they ’ ve taken the opportunity to rethink the way they do business , and they ’ ve managed teams to success . “ Success ” might be an objective outcome or more subjective , resulting in a process improvement , a design direction , or a cultural change .

SEAN McLAUGHLIN

Flyntlok , CEO Sean McLaughlin bought a dealership group in Alaska and was not happy with the business ’ s dealership management software . He created his own , and that became Flyntlok , one of the newer DMS providers . His company is quickly gaining a reputation for being customerfocused and cutting-edge , adding useful features while keeping simplicity in mind . McLaughlin calls this “ software built by dealers , for dealers .” McLaughlin worked his way through college as a landscaper . He built trading-system software for Wall Street companies before he moved to Alaska .

“ When I moved to Alaska , and found the power equipment business for sale , I thought it would be fun and interesting . Now I ’ m working to create better digital management for all the people in this business .”

He has always researched and studied the market , allowing him to help major manufacturers make good decisions for the marketplace in programming , promotions , and direction for equipment . Ultimately , the enduser experience is better , and this has always been his number one goal .

“ I like to bring value to the stores . We teach people and try to make training fun . Our service training is always hands on , not just sitting in a hotel room somewhere . We tear stuff down and put it back together . And we destroy stuff too ! Then we can show how to repair it in the real world .”
