After the last couple of seasons marked by slow starts, it’ s refreshing- and encouraging- to finally be looking at consistent snowfall across much of the snowbelt. Conditions are shaping up the way riders hope for, and snowmobile clubs- the true heartbeat of the sport- are once again stepping up. Their volunteers are working quickly and tirelessly to open trails early and keep them groomed and in top shape as the season gains momentum.
With such a strong start to winter, now is an ideal time to begin planning your riding trips. In this issue, we take you along on an unforgettable father-and-son adventure as Lorne and Bob Steeves rack up an impressive 2,800 miles, traveling from New Brunswick all the way to Arctic Cat’ s hometown of Thief River Falls, Minnesota. It’ s a journey that highlights not only the thrill of long-distance riding, but also the friendships, scenery, and trail systems that make snowmobiling so special. Your own dream trip may not span three provinces and three states, but it’ s never too early to start mapping out your next Great Escape.
We also shine a spotlight on the always-enjoyable Hurley, Wisconsin, area, a destination that continues to deliver great riding, welcoming communities, and dependable trail networks. In addition, we encourage riders to look beyond their usual routes and consider exploring new areas in New York and elsewhere— sometimes the best memories come from discovering places you haven’ t ridden before.
All signs point to this shaping up as an excellent winter for snowmobiling. With strong early snowfall and motivated clubs maintaining the trails, this feels like the perfect season to get out more often and venture a little farther. Exploring new regions, meeting fellow riders, and experiencing different trail systems are some of the true joys of the sport, and this winter offers the ideal opportunity to do just that.
