46 postcard-like settings with a picturesque backdrop – much like how autumn travelers chase fall colors through New England , except without the leaves and with lots of snow , of course .
The trails are groomed day and night depending on the demand – to our surprise , one day of riding we encountered groomers on three separate occasions . There are a few loops to ride in this area , making for easy round-trip riding without backtracking .
Destinations are not an issue . Hogback Mountain to the east , near Marlboro , Vermont , offers a glimpse of how far skiing has come . This obsolete ski hill still has the old base lodge , with many rope-tow towers and the old wooden ski chairs still laying around to explore . As a bonus , you can also get a three-state view at the scenic overlook .
Trailside accommodations are plentiful , including the trailside White House Inn and Vantage Motel . Pitstops fade in and out – The Sitzmark and The Matterhorn Inn to the north both closed in recent times , but access trails to The Roadhouse north of town plus The Last Chair and West Dover Joe ’ s in West Dover were opened soon after the disappearance of the others . Gas in the area was the only thing lacking , with just one station located on the southern end of
