When here , don ’ t miss the Alpine Feed Ground , operated by Wyoming Fish and Game , which draws more than 1,000 elk from December to April and is accessible right at the edge of town .

Located high astride the Continental Divide just 36 miles from Jackson Hole , this charming town offers everything you need , starting with plenty of wonderful snow ! This area can get more than 500 inches of snowfall in a good winter , and snow depths can reach 12 feet ! When combined with the surrounding scenic and rugged peaks , open bowls and treelined hills , that snow provides a lengthy season of high altitude riding that is second to none .
The Wyoming Range snowmobile trail system provides groomed access to great backcountry riding , or can entertain visitors who just want to pile on some miles and soak up the fabulous scenery without the rigors of off-trail excursions . This system encompasses approximately 350 miles of trails between Alpine and Kemmerer , with main trails groomed weekly and secondary trails groomed every other week from mid-December to mid-March . One trailhead is just one mile from town , plus many more miles of trails are available in immediately adjacent parts of Idaho . One popular ride is from Alpine up through the Greys River area to the Box Y Lodge for lunch and then back to town . You can bring your own sleds and equipment , or rent anything and everything you need locally . Rental sled choices run from beginner-friendly trail machines to extreme backcountry mountain snowmobiles . If you do bring your own , know that riding elevations here range from 6,000 to 10,000 feet above sea level and modestly priced Wyoming permits are available from local businesses .
