History can be educational , inspirational and humbling , all at the same time . Such is the case when looking back through old magazines and seeing the history of snowmobile touring .

Issues of Snow Goer magazine from the 1960s show that discovering “ new ” places to go snowmobiling may not be that new after all . In fact , the locations featured in this edition of Great Escapes are truly “ classic ” destinations – as evidenced by the fact that the January 1967 issue of the magazine tells a tale of riding in Michigan ’ s Keweenaw Peninsula ; the Fall 1967 issue featured a cover story on riding around West Yellowstone , Montana ; and adventures in Ontario are found throughout those early years as well .

Obviously the beauty of the amazing Old Faithful geyser in Yellowstone , the incredible view from Brockway Mountain overlooking the Keweenaw ’ s Copper Harbor and the stunning rocky outcroppings of Ontario far pre-date the invention of the snowmobile . However , seeing wondrous winter images of those locations from 50 years ago reminds me of the timelessness of nature , and the joy of being able to reach each of them via snowmobile . Incredible views and remarkable experiences are out there waiting for us – and they ’ ll keep waiting . Barring something inconceivably cataclysmic , these breathtaking sights won ’ t change much in our lifetime – they don ’ t have pending expiration dates .

Sadly , the only thing that does have an expiration date is each one of

us ! We ’ re all only granted so much time on this planet , and none of us are getting any younger . If you keep putting off the epic snowmobiling adventure of your dreams , you might miss out . Whether you make plans to visit a destination featured in this issue or to fulfill dreams of riding somewhere else , start making those plans now because , as they say , tomorrow is not guaranteed !
