YELLOWSTONE
Visit The Park ; Adventure Ride Outside Of It
Aside from the guided rides with rental sleds inside Yellowstone , there are endless miles of excellent mountain trails and freeriding areas outside of the park where you can ride on expertly maintained and signed trails , or go off trail to create your own powdery adventure .
Ride your own sled , or rent one ( from low-displacement cruising up to long track mountain muscle ) from many available outfits in the adventurous town of West Yellowstone just outside of the park ’ s western gate . Many of the hotels and for-rent cabins stay open throughout the winter months and the town ’ s streets are lightly plowed to maintain snow cover for snowmobile traffic . Plus the area has a lot of other activities to keep your whole crew entertained .
The site of last year ’ s Rode Reports snowmobile testing event , we ’ ve grown to love the trails in the West Yellowstone area , particularly the scenic and challenging Two Top loop ( with a distant view of the Grand Tetons ), Lion ’ s Head , the Madison Arm Loop and the oftenforgotten South Plateau Trail that heads into the mountains from the southwestern part of town .
It all makes West Yellowstone a can ’ t miss snowmobiling destination .
