Côte Nord ( North Coast , the Manicouagan and Duplessis Regions )

For those seeking a destination that ’ s a little more off the beaten path , try Côte Nord . The North Coast of the St . Lawrence River is considerably more rugged than the south shore , and that results in some very scenic but sometimes more challenging and generally less crowded trails .
Situated north and east of the Saguenay River , this area is reached by
taking a ferry across the Saguenay at Tadoussac , a small port that ’ s renowned for whale watching boat trips . Some riders choose to start the adventure farther to the southwest , and ride their sleds right on to the ferry boat with the road traffic , and then connect to the Côte Nord trails without missing a beat .
On the way to Baie Comeau , riders cross the Manicouagan River on the longest ( 700 feet ) and highest ( 90 feet ) snowmobile bridge in North America , a truly unforgettable experience , those who seek big miles , consider that the trail from Tadoussac to Blanc-Sablon is 1,020 miles one-way .

One Lasting Memory ...
Ted Perkins and I were riding with Jim and Melissa Jamison , our explorer friends from Pennsylvania . We pulled into the open area in front of a local club house . A sizeable sign on the building said motoneige – soleil de nos hiver , which means “ snowmobile , ( the ) sunshine of our winter .” We could not have agreed more .
