One Lasting Memory ...
It was well below zero when we left Val d ’ Or , with the wind blowing hard and the trails drifted almost shut , so it was tough going . Our half-frozen group finally arrived at the BAM Chinese Restaurant in Senneterre . I don ’ t care for Chinese food , but what they had waiting for us was a total surprise . We were served a large slice of pizza , a huge piece of lasagna and a substantial side dish of spaghetti . It was nice and hot and awesomely good . Our wellfortified riding group had a much better afternoon ride , and I have never had a better or a more welcome lunch on the trail anywhere .

Abitibi could be the best-kept snowmobile secret in all of Québec . This region gets more snow than almost anywhere else in the big province , and all that white stuff combines with a vast expanse of territory to produce seemingly endless power cruising on well-groomed and often extra-wide trails through the boreal forest . When you want somewhere to just ride your brains out , visit Abitibi and experience snowmobiling at its purest .
Outfitters stand ready to help , self-guided tours are available , superbly marked trails often seem like snowmobile super highways , and most service establishments are surprisingly modern . Trail traffic is generally light and distances between services can be significant , so make sure you are well prepared in every way . Expect serious cold and don ’ t be surprised to see fresh snow on the sled every morning .
