Every year when the holiday season comes around – or even key birthdays , for that matter – folks start stressing about what to give to the people in their lives who have everything they want or need .

Whether it ’ s your parents , your adult children , your siblings or even your spouse or significant other , once a person gets financially stable , it often makes them very difficult to shop for . I ’ m not just talking about wealthy people here – because , let ’ s face it , most gifts are under $ 100 – but rather just folks who are established in their lives .

I put myself in that category : Realistically , if I want a new pair of jeans , better lighting in my garage or a fresh set of snowmobile gloves , chances are good that I ’ ll just go out and buy them myself . I ’ m not going to wait until Christmas or my birthday and then hope that the people shopping for me will know the size , shape or style that fits my exact needs .

With that in mind , for years when my wife and kids have asked what I want for Christmas , my answer has been the same : Time . The most important thing they can give me is some of their time so we can make a shared , positive experience . That kind of stuff makes far better lasting memories than a new coffee mug , pair of slippers or engraved money clip .

For me – and quite likely you , if you ’ re taking the time to page through this latest edition of Snow Goer ’ s Great Escapes – many of life ’ s great winter experiences occur when behind a set of handlebars . Following the curving white ribbon of a snowmobile trail past snow-laden trees , over hills , through valleys and to interesting locations burns lasting memories into our brains . Doing it with people we care about makes those memories all the better .

That ’ s what Great Escapes is all about – encouraging our fellow snowmobilers

to go make the best of the coming winter . Whether you visit some of the fascinating , snowmobiling-centric destinations featured in this issue , or the stories inspire you to finally visit some other sledding location of your dreams , this winter take the time to give yourself the gift of creating memory-making experiences . Better yet , share those experiences with somebody you care about – whether they are family , friends , folks in your snowmobile club or a buddy from college who you haven ’ t seen in years .

When you make lasting memories , it ’ s truly the gift that keeps on giving .
