UTAH
After a morning of riding , the three different riding groups reunited and gathered around a campfire that was started after the guides gathered dead branches and set them ablaze . Hot dogs never tasted so good !
Greg had four distinct advantages : He was tall , strong , acclimated to the altitude and very confident in his riding capabilities . He parked off to the side of the mess , eyeballed the situation while pulling off his helmet , then went to work on the first sled . Less than a half hour into the first day ’ s ride , I just had to ask : “ Is this setting up to be an especially tough day at the office for you , Greg ?” “ Nah ,” said Greg Wamsley , all 6-foot-4 inches and 205 pounds of him , with a grin on his face that didn ’ t leave all day , no matter how hard he worked for his guests . “ This is
just part of the deal , and part of the fun . And , it ’ s just going to happen in a year like this
when we have such a slow start to the winter .” One client looked at the submerged snowmobiles , some buried to the handlebars . “ A slow start ?
“ Oh yeah , we should have a lot more snow by now .”
400 INCHES OF FUN
So when isn ’ t 4 feet of powder enough ? If you ’ re from somewhere east of the Rockies , that may seem like a trick question . But if you ’ re from an area that averages 400 inches of snow per year , well … it just goes to prove that all things are relative .
