Experience has taught me that it is possible to have too much of a good thing . Too much German food , too much whiskey and too much sun had caused me occasional problems in the past . But too much powdery snow ? Nope , that didn ’ t seem possible for a snow lover like me . Couldn ’ t happen .

But about 25 miles north of Steamboat Springs , Colorado , one recent January with my sled buried beyond the handlebars on an incline that , in normal conditions , would be easy to handle about … and while panting feverishly and seemingly hopelessly to try refill my flatland lungs …. and with my lower back aching from many other dig-outs … and while looking out at my son and his friend in similar predicaments waiting for my help … Yes , I had to admit it : All of this unbelievably wonderful powder that I had hoped , dreamed and prayed about riding in someday had officially kicked my sorry butt !
