Logan & Cache Valley
Doing winter right . A combination of awesome riding and outstanding after-snowmobile activities separates the city of Logan and the surrounding Cache Valley of northern Utah from all the others .
Located just 83 miles north of Salt Lake City , and with easy access by a short half-hour drive off Interstate 15 , Logan is the heart of this superb snowmobile vacation destination . The surrounding Cache Valley offers more than 400 inches of snow each winter , producing a season that runs from December into late April . And it ’ s all framed by spectacular Wasatch Mountain scenery that allows the riding to be as easy or as challenging as you want it , so this area is suitable for both very experienced mountain riders or first-time visitors to the West , and everyone in between .
After your sleds are parked , historic Logan and the Cache Valley continue to sparkle as a superior winter vacation destination . The restored 1883 Cache County Courthouse in downtown Logan is home to the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau and some great souvenir shopping that includes excellent maps of the area . While you are downtown , drop in to one of the many local restaurants that feature an amazing variety of cuisine from Indian to Italian , Mexican to Hawaiian , or good old all-American fare .
Back outdoors , it is less than 10 minutes to the mouth of Logan Canyon and the start of more than 300 miles of maintained snowmobile trails . These trails feature scenic variety and quality grooming while providing access to thousands of acres of off-trail riding for those who want to frolic in pristine deep powder or high mark somewhere new in elevations ranging from 6,500 to 10,000 feet . All snowmobiles must be registered in Utah , with a modestly priced permit for non-residents available from local vendors . Or you can travel light and rent sleds when you arrive in this winter vacation paradise .
Beaver Creek Lodge is a great base for exploring the riding in the Cache Valley region . The Lodge can handle any snowmobile vacation needs with comfortable accommodations plus new rental sleds and apparel for guided or unguided riding .
The frequently groomed Beaver Creek Trail provides access to numerous play areas . Or take a ride south to Blacksmith Fork Canyon and on to visit Hardware Ranch . Here you view a 600- head herd of grazing elk up close . Snowmobilers are reminded to stick to designated trails in this critical wintering area for the elk and other natural resources .
Then ride the Sinks Trail north from Hardware Ranch to some of the best play areas and hill climbing in the region . Temple Canyon and the Garden City trails provide access to some great wildlife viewing opportunities . The Tony Grove Trail offers excellent mountain riding opportunities as it climbs up to another play area at Tony Grove Lake , and then on to an amazing three-state view from Mt . Naomi Peak . Many other spur trails provide additional riding opportunities , including up to Bear Lake on the Idaho border .
This year , come see how Logan and the Cache Valley do winter right . Visit ExploreLogan . com or call the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau at 800 / 882-4433 .
