Place a jumper , if necessary , between the T-T terminals on the primary control . Attach your truck key to the jumper you can ’ t leave without it .
NOTE : ( Powervented installation ): During the following procedures the burner should fail to start due to the disconnected air proving line , if that occurs reconnect line and continue . If not , diagnose problem with air proving circuit .
Primary Control Ensure safe start circuit by attempting to start control with F-F shorted . Check for correct safety timing shut down according to OEM ’ s specifications . A plus or minus 10 % differential is allowed . Run the control with a 1500-ohm resistor between the F-F terminals to verify the correct operation of the control .
29 . LIMIT CONTROLS
Check the burner circuit for operation of limit controls , low water cut off , high limit and / or combination fan and limit control .
30 . SAFETY RELIEF VALVE
Open the safety on steam and hot water boilers and check for proper operation .
31 . STEAM SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
Remove pigtail siphon and flush with hot water . If plugged try cleaning with the hand pump , Figure3 , if it cannot be cleaned , replace . Flush float type lowwater cutoffs until drained . Remove and inspect float . Clean the cutoff body and flush by opening feed valve . Install quick open flush valve is not equipped . Replace gauge glass and washers . Remove probe from boiler if probe type cutoff is used and clean per OEM ’ s requirements . Refill boiler after cleaning and start burner . Drain boiler from drain until burner shuts off . Check the Ph of the system water and treat if necessary .
32 . HOT WATER SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
Verify correct system pressure by placing test gauge onto system . Verify correct diaphragm expansion tank pressure by isolating from system and verifying with pressure gauge . Drain conventional expansion tank . Oil multi-piece type circulators . Check the Ph of the system water and treat if necessary .
33 . WARM AIR SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
Humidifiers on furnaces should be cleaned and checked . If parts are needed , note this on slip and advise the customer . If you carry parts for the humidifier , inform the customer of the cost and get permission to install . Replace air filters in furnace , if required . Oil the furnace fan motor , if required and check and adjust the belt , if required . Verify the correct operation of electronic air cleaners and service per OEM ’ s recommendations .
34 . INSTRUMENT TESTING
Place a stack thermometer in the fluepipe and begin testing only when ‘ steady-state ’ temperature has been reached . Make draft settings using an accurate draft gauge or manometer , Figure 5 . Set only to OEM ’ s specifications . Set the air settings on adjustable head burners to OEM specifications and lock in place . Set the combustion head on adjustable head burners or the air gate on fixed head burners using an ohmmeter , the

cad-cell and the Lanthier Scale or primary control , Figure 6 . Verify Lanthier Scale reading with smoke tester setting equipment only for ‘ True Zero Smoke ’.
Make tests of the flame and heat exchanger efficiency by measuring the O2 or CO2 output of the unit . Measure both over the fire and in the breeching and compare for ‘ True CO2 ’. Recheck the stack temperature and verify that it is over 350 ° F Gross to prevent condensing in the flueways .
Keep in mind that you may need to reposition the head or replace the nozzle , and check for the spray pattern and angle that works best with the retention head used . We recommend that every effort be made to secure at least 80 % efficiency , and if you cannot , advise your
