Braya Renewable Fuels announced the start of commercial production at its renewable fuels refinery in Come By Chance ,

Newfoundland and Labrador . Braya says it anticipates initial production capacity of 18,000 barrels of renewable diesel per day .
Braya Renewable Fuels converted the Come By Chance Refinery to renewable fuel operations and renamed it after the provincial braya flower . The refinery is strategically located to deliver fuels to a variety of end use markets , according to Braya Renewable Fuels . The refinery plans to produce renewable fuel and sustainable aviation fuel to help decarbonize the heavy road transport and other sectors .
“ With the Low Carbon Fuel Standard program in place , California is currently the biggest market for renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel , but with environmental regulations and sustainable fuel requirements being introduced around the world , we expect significant additional markets to develop across the U . S ., Canada and Europe ,” said a spokesperson for Braya . For more , turn to the News section in this issue .
And from the University of California at Riverside comes a finding that introducing a simple , renewable chemical to the pretreatment step can finally make next-generation biofuel production both cost-effective and carbon neutral . For more , turn to page 10 .
Star Group Acquires Blue Light Energy News that Star Group acquired Blue Light Energy reached us as we were wrapping up this issue , so we ’ re including the announcement here . The establishment of Blue Light Energy LLC of Bridgehampton , N . Y ., dates to November 2012 , when lifelong friends Albert ( Albie ) McCoy and Robert ( Bob ) Schiavoni teamed up to start a propane company on the East End of Long Island : Blue Light Energy . The partners saw a need for a local propane provider that would offer first-rate service and personalized customer care in their Long Island neighborhood . “ When Albie and I started Blue Light Energy , we had a vision to build a first-class propane business ,” said Schiavoni . Blue Peak Resources , an advisor to Blue Light Energy , served as the facilitator and negotiator of the sale . The team provided the financial valuations , prepared the business offering package to potential buyers , and assisted in the negotiations and final deal terms . John Armentano and Mike Gioffre are partners in Blue Peak Resources .
Maryland ’ s House and Senate considered The Critical Infrastructure Streamlining Act of 2024 . The legislation , sponsored by Gov . Wes Moore , would remove a regulatory barrier impacting how back up power systems are classified and considered as part of data center applications , according to The Engine Technology Forum . The Forum says it supports the legislation and encourages Maryland ’ s elected officials to do so as well . The Forum ’ s Executive Director Allen Schaeffer testified at a hearing in February in Annapolis to help provide lawmakers with a better understanding of backup generators and the role they play in ensuring continuous electrical power supply .
