are all very dependent on our devices and our conveniences , and that ’ s all supported by grid infrastructure .” When the grid is down , fuel for backup generators is critical for first-responder operations , for servers for information technology systems and the like . “ Those facilities can ’ t be out of power , they can ’ t be dark ,” Rohrig notes .
For private industry customers , says Chelsea Harrison , vice president of marketing , a fuel quality program conducts testing to help ensure fuel quality for backup generators . Depending on test results , the company can apply additives , “ polish ” fuel to return it to spec , or perform tank cleaning .
Rohrig says that for Foster Fuels ’ part , “ It ’ s prepare , prepare , prepare , and be ready when the wind blows or there ’ s an earthquake or flooding .” When the alarm sounds , so to speak , “ You have to be able to ramp up from your normal everyday fleet operation ,” he says . “ We have added as many as 300 or 400 trucks to the operation in a very short time .”
