According to ATA , Crawford , the congressman , said during the hearing : “ Mr . Secretary , I think it ’ s safe to assume that [ as a result of the proposed policy change ] the number of all impaired drivers on our roadways would increase . Can you speak to what your department is doing to ensure that transportation workers in safety reliant positions can continue to be tested for marijuana use if this proposal goes forward and how your department plans to address transportation safety in light of DOJ ’ s ruling ?”
ATA said Buttigieg replied : “ Our understanding of the rescheduling of marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III is that it would not alter DOT ’ s marijuana testing requirements with respect to the regulated community . For private individuals who are performing safetysensitive functions , subject to drug testing , marijuana is identified by name , not by reference to one of those classes . So even if it was in its classification , we do not believe that that would have a direct impact on that authority .”
� CALL TO ROLL BACK ELECTRIC TRUCK MANDATE
More than 150 members of Congress launched a new effort to push back against the Environmental Protection Agency ’ s Phase 3 Greenhouse Gas emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicles .
Congressman Randy Feenstra ( R-Iowa ) and Senator Mike Crapo ( R-Idaho ), leading the effort , called on Administrator Michael Regan to withdraw the rule , the American Trucking Associations said in a July 2 statement . ATA said it supported the effort .
“ ATA remains opposed to EPA ’ s current GHG3 rule . The current state of available zero-emission technology , very limited heavy-duty charging and refueling infrastructure , and an unstable power grid make the post-2030 targets entirely unachievable ,” said American Trucking Associations Senior Vice President of Legislative Affairs Henry Hanscom . “ ATA believes the most effective path to fixing the serious flaws in GHG3 is through legislative and administrative means . That ’ s why we welcome this effort led by Congressman Feenstra and Senator Crapo calling on EPA to withdraw this unworkable rule and review the targets to account for the operational realities of trucking .” A letter sent by the members of Congress to Regan said EPA ’ s rule will disrupt the trucking industry , raise costs for consumers , and place burdens on farmers and
