That the New York League of Conservation Voters joined Sprague Operating Sources to celebrate the availability of renewable diesel at a Sprague terminal in upstate New York is noteworthy .
Julie Tighe , President , New York League of Conservation Voters said at the June 12 event : “ Today marks an important achievement in environmental progress as renewable diesel arrives at the Sprague Fuel Terminal in Rensselaer , NY , bolstering cleaner energy and public health in the Capital Region . This significant step forward , following Sprague Energy ’ s recent entry into renewable diesel retail with the Sonomax station in Brooklyn , underscores the urgent need to transition away from dirty fossil fuels to combat greenhouse gas emissions and toxic air pollution .”

David Glendon , President and CEO , Sprague Operating Resources LLC said : “ We are very excited to further expand our renewable fuel supply at the Sprague Rensselaer / Albany Terminal and look forward to helping propel adoption of renewable diesel in upstate New York and across our entire Northeast footprint .” For more on this , turn to page 14 .
The National Energy & Fuels Institute published an updated version of its National Policy Agenda . The updated agenda calls for , among other things , “ advancing equitable solutions for carbon reduction .” It notes : Renewable Liquid Heating Fuels ( RLHFs ) – blends of biodiesel , renewable diesel , and other advanced biofuels with home heating oil – offer an immediate and equitable solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions without requiring costly conversions to other fuels or electric heat pump systems . These fuels utilize existing liquid fuel infrastructure and can be used in existing heating systems . They are often produced domestically , supporting American jobs and businesses while contributing to federal and state climate goals . In keeping with the industry ’ s 2019 Providence Resolution , NEFI is committed to delivering a net-zero heating fuel to consumers by 2050 and therefore advocates for policies that promote the growth and adoption of RLHFs .”
Education and workforce development also figures prominently in the updated agenda , as well as working collaboratively with state associations . “ Many states across the country have enacted aggressive targets to reduce economywide greenhouse gas emissions ,” the Institute noted . “ Proposed policies aimed at achieving these goals will have an extraordinary impact on our members , their customers , the cost and availability of heating fuels and appliances , and utility rates . They will also impact regional energy security and reliability , especially policies aimed at 100 % building electrification . NEFI supports its state association partners as they navigate complex issues such as clean heat standards , appliance installation bans , and mandated heat pump installations through building codes .” For more , turn to page 11 . l FON
