Beginning with its data release for 2023 , EIA changed its approach to converting the electricity generated by non-combustible renewables to British thermal units , which altered its assessment of when renewable consumption passed coal consumption . Under the captured energy approach EIA now uses , U . S . consumption of renewables surpassed coal in 2023 for the first time since about 1885 . Under EIA ’ s previous fossil fuel equivalency approach , renewables had surpassed coal in 2019 .

� KWR INTRODUCES RENEWABLE DIESEL
KW Rastall Oil , North Brunswick , NJ , announced that it partnered with Diesel Direct to offer Neste MY Renewable Diesel , a renewable hydrotreated vegetable oil ( HVO ).
KWR is making Neste MY Renewable Diesel accessible to a range of customers , including fleet operators , transport companies , and individual consumers , the company said . The fuel will be available at KWR ’ s retail fueling station in North Brunswick , its other NJ dispatch centers and through direct delivery services to fleets , job sites , tanks , and businesses , KWR said in a statement .
Neste MY Renewable Diesel is made from sustainably sourced , 100 % renewable raw materials . Since it is a “ drop-in ” solution , no modifications to existing diesel engines and fueling infrastructure are needed to make the switch , KW Rastall and Neste said in an April 1 statement announcing their venture .
David Rosenburgh , president of KWR , said , “ Offering Neste MY Renewable Diesel allows us to make a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions in New Jersey while providing our customers with a superior , drop-in replacement of traditional fossil diesel .” l FON
