Figure 10 handle is at six o ’ clock and the 5 / 8-inch handle is at about four-thirty , Figure 11 , and tighten so they are even with each other . That spacing turns into 1 / 8th of a turn or 45 degrees apart so by setting the wrenches correctly and pulling them together that ’ s all you need to reach torque . Keep in mind you are either mating brass to brass or steel to brass on what is supposed to be two perfectly even and flat surfaces . If you do this every time and show as many others as you can , you ’ ll never need the 36-inwwch and 48-inch pipe wrenches to take them apart again .
When you take a good look at the tool list again , you may be wondering what I use to get the cover screws off a Suntec , Figure 12 , or Beckett Clean Cut pump ? Well as it turns out I use the 4mm Allen bit in my Riello Multidriver . It ’ s one of those strange coincidences that the 4mm Allen used by Riello and most European OEMs and the 5 / 32-inch Allen used on the North American pumps is so close that the 4mm bit will do them all .

We do have a much more extensive Tool List for apprentices and others doing gas and oil service work that we issue in our schools . If you ’ d like a copy reach out to us , but keep in mind we ’ re only open from April to September .
This is also another tip , not about tools , but instrumentation . We ’ ve had a lot of people contact us looking for information on the Bacharach MZF draft gauge . Yes , it has been discontinued and no , I have no idea why . I ’ ll offer a few solutions , but one of them is NOT that little pocket draft gauge from Bacharach , it ’ s just not worth the money , in my opinion .
The first
Figure 13 option is a direct replacement in the Brigon Model T45 available from Beckett / Westwood , Figure 13 . My only complaint with the T45 is that the positive side of the gauge only goes to +. 01 and that limits its ability .
The second is a Dwyer Magnehelic , Figure 14 . You ’ ll notice that to make the Dwyer a really nice instrument to work with requires three parts , but you ’ ll end up with a multi-position gauge with magnets and a very high accuracy for under $ 200.00 . I just replaced my 50-year-old one and it ’ s a great tool and definitely paid for itself .
Finally , you could upgrade to a digital manometer . Don ’ t buy cheap and don ’ t break the bank . Lots of great one ’ s available , but make sure it ’ s ‘ dual port ’ and has ¼ ”
hose ports . In looking around I found that a budget of $ 200.00 should make you
Figure 14 the owner of a great gauge you ’ ll use on gas and oil for draft and gas pressures .
By the way , we will no longer be doing any more Riello classes , gas or oil , as we wind down to closing and retirement . 2022 was also our last year for our Gas Service School and we will only do one Wiring School and two Basic Oilheat Schools in 2023 . Check our schedule on our website since we put two new classes together based on request we have received , thanks .
