The Rains Down in Africa
Honda’ s CRF1000L Africa Twin was one of the most eagerly anticipated motorcycles of 2016. In the 1980s, Honda built a production replica of its NXR750V Paris-Dakar Rally race bike called the XRV650 Africa Twin, a dual-sport“ capable of crossing the Alps and the Mediterranean, and riding into the heart of the African continent.” Built from 1988-2003, the Africa Twin became renowned for its rugged versatility and bulletproof reliability, but it was never sold in the U. S. Honda held the world press launch of the new Africa Twin in South Africa’ s Great Karoo, a semi-desert region flanked by craggy mountains. This photo was taken between rainstorms on the way up to Bainskloof Pass( 1,949 feet), where sharp-toothed baboons lurked along the roadside. And yes, the Africa Twin has finally come to America.
